Cows
Jan 9, 2005
"...Straight ahead two miles, then left at the cows." The
directions seem a bit ambiguous considering number pastures up and down the
main road leading to the house; but once you see them, it's difficult to
misunderstand.
A number of years ago, a family in our area installed a
life-size cow--right out of Gary Larson's "The Far Side"--looking
over the fence, watching traffic on the main road. The cow got dressed up for
all the major holidays, and served as a pleasant landmark for those in our
area. Some ner-do-wells stole the cow as a prank a few years back, though it
was thankfully returned after a simple plea was installed in its place.
Less than a year ago, the family added a second bovine (the one looking
away from the camera) watching for traffic coming the opposite
direction. Perhaps this second set of eyes will help protect the two from
hoodlums in the future.
